Aged old Magnolia seed

ANCIENT SEED GERMINATES

Grown from a 2,000-year-old seed, a unique magnolia tree blooms at Easter, the beginning of April.

The seed was found among carbonized beans and rice in November, 1982 at an excavation near Hiroshima, Japan. It was turned over for analysis to Hiroshi Utsunomiya, a lecturer at Yamaguchi University. He soaked it in water, sowed it with loving care and let nature take its course. The seed sprouted and grew, becoming a 7 foot tall tree. A year and a half later, several magnolia buds appeared.

Through centuries of waiting in its dark tomb, the small brown seed slept and held on to its secret of life, keeping its genetic code intact against the uncertainty of the ages.

That seed held on in the tomb because it still had a mission to fulfill. The recipe for its blossoming and for its reproduction remained packed into that small seed, unfinished yet ready and waiting to fulfill its mission.

We, who belong to the resurrected Christ, also have a mission to fulfill.

“Here's a way to find out if your work on earth is finished,” author Richard Bach wrote, “If you are still alive, it isn't.”

Let’s fulfill the mission for which we were called.

 Mar 4:26, 27--  And he said, So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed into the ground; And should sleep, and rise night and day, and the seed should spring and grow up, he knoweth not how. 

A seed produces what God created it to produce--Man is also created to produce either temporal things if done only in his strength or eternal when done with the help of the Holy Spirit that lives within us when we are Christians--

Gal. 6:8 --For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. 

Make your day account for all eternity--whether for yourself by accepting the gift of salvation through Christ or in the lives of others by the strength of Jesus Christ within you!
